Parody of the “Hood” Genre

My final project for my “Advanced Seminar in Film” class. It was a theory class and not a production class, and we had to make a presentation on a particular genre of films, citing the example we studied in class, as well as outside sources. My partner, Ace, and I were both production students, so we decided to make a short movie. Our studies told us that if you switch the races of the hood genre (make the hoodlums white), you are left with a “mobster” film. We wanted to play around with the idea of swapping races, but still having the film fall into the “hood” genre. It is only a rough cut; we never got to rerecord dialogue, but the class loved it, and I graduated with a degree in Film Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
